In China, 39 new cases of the new coronavirus have been confirmed in the last 24 hours, but all new cases have been “imported,” the National Health Commission said Monday.
Of these, 10 new cases were registered in Shanghai and 10 in Beijing.
China is worried about importing infection from abroad, with the number of “imported” cases rising steadily in recent weeks to over 350.
Many cities have put strict rules on quarantining, but the National Aviation Authority said on Sunday that all international flights to Beijing would be diverted to other cities for screening.
Nine new Covid-19 deaths – all in Wuhan – have also been registered in China in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths in China to 3,270.
The absence of new domestic infections is an important milestone in China’s fight against Covid-19, but the rise in “imported” cases is jeopardizing progress in this area.
