In Russia, 2,558 cases of infection with the new coronavirus were registered during the last day and the total number of infections has increased by 16%, reaching 18,328.

As of Sunday, another 18 people have died from the virus, resulting in a total of 148 deaths in Russia caused by COVID-19.

In Moscow, 1355 new infections have been registered in the last 24 hours. In the capital which is home to more than 12 million people, has diagnosed almost two-thirds of Russia’s total infections.

Another 495 people were detected during the day in the Moscow region, 121 in St. Petersburg, 44 in the Tver region and 41 in the Krasnodar region.

The number of new infections in Russia has risen sharply in the last two weeks, by 560% since 1st April.

The spread of COVID-19 has put a huge strain on Moscow hospitals and a special digital movement permit system will be launched in the city on Wednesday to limit the spread of the virus. According to the order issued by the mayor of the city Sergey Sobyanin, those people who have to go to work will receive a permanent code for two weeks, but for personal trips, regardless of whether it is planned to travel by public transport, taxi, car or bicycle, one-time passes which will indicate the route of travel.

The publication of these codes started on the website of the Moscow City Council on Monday.

As of the end of March, persons living in Moscow have reportedly been allowed to leave their home only to go to work if it is not possible to work remotely and in case of urgent medical attention or other direct danger to life or health, as well as to shop in the nearest store or pharmacy.

It is also allowed to take pets for a walk no further than 100 meters from the place of residence, as well as to take out the trash.
